No. Alongside the familiar black case lined with white velvet, Montblanc also uses smaller, flat boxes with a transparent lid. This packaging is intended for sale at airports and on board aircraft, where bulk and weight matter. It looks a good deal plainer than the standard packaging and for that reason regularly causes doubt, but it is genuine factory packaging. It turns up most often with models that are typical travel goods, such as ballpoints from the Solitaire line or the Tribute to the Mont Blanc version.
In any case packaging is of only limited use in judging authenticity, since boxes and paperwork can be obtained separately and are counterfeited just as the pens are. Far more telling are a service booklet filled in and stamped by the dealer, a receipt and, above all, the pen itself: the crispness and depth of the imprints, the execution of the star in the cap top, the fit of cap and threads, and the engraving of the nib.
