How do you recognise a copy of a Montblanc Sienna leather case for two pens?

Montblanc leather goods are copied too. On the two-pen Sienna case, three features separate original and fake.

The leather itself: the copy is very heavily grained, whereas the surface of the original is finely textured. The closing flap is distinctly shorter on the fake.

The star on the front: on the fake the corners are not properly round but rather pointed. The surrounding ring has no genuine gilding and looks a dirty brass colour instead.

The embossing on the back is the clearest feature of all. On the original it is far crisper: the entire panel bearing the MONTBLANC lettering is recessed. On the copy the embossing is only hinted at and the star is barely visible.
