Entry ages range from about 8 (special-model cases) through 17–20 as a widespread span up to 25–26; age itself is, by collector opinion, largely irrelevant. Decisive are less biographical barriers than financial means and one's own aspiration, which may quite well include long-term goals like a Carnegie 4810 or a Jules Verne. Coveted Limited Editions are often quickly sold out and rise rapidly in price (Jules Verne from about 900 euros); new Writers Editions at 700 euros are felt as overpriced, so many young collectors expand to brands like Cartier, S.T. Dupont or inexpensive models like Waterman Phileas.
