The Charles Dickens is distinctly larger and heavier: 149 mm capped, 130 mm uncapped, at a total weight of 43.2 g and 28.2 g without the cap. In diameter the Fitzgerald looks somewhat more substantial at the barrel than the Dickens, yet the two are equally thick at the section, so the writing hand notices hardly any difference, though the weight is another matter.
Anyone set on a pen that is emphatically large and heavy is therefore better served by the Dickens, which plays more in the league of the 149; in bulk the Fitzgerald sits with the 146. The weight of the cap is worth allowing for as well: on the Dickens some 15 g of the total is cap, on the Fitzgerald just under 11 g, so that both pens become markedly top-heavy when posted and are usually written unposted.
