With listings of this kind the first thing to check is where the photographs came from. Where the pictures are recognisably taken from the manufacturer's website or from collectors' pages, be extremely wary: a seller who posts someone else's images is precisely not showing the pen that will be delivered. Such listings are best avoided regardless of whether the set in the picture looks genuine, since authenticity cannot be judged from another party's photographs anyway.
Misleading claims about availability are just as common. The amber version is a Special Edition and was regularly available in the shops; the assertion that it was never officially sold is untrue. A Special Edition is moreover not limited, so there is neither a fixed edition size nor individual numbering as with the Limited Editions — nothing there justifies a collector's premium. A price in the region of 888 euros, such as was asked around 2010, was accordingly well over the odds. Pens from this edition come up on the second-hand market regularly, so patience pays.
