Is the Montblanc line with the 144 fountain pen and the 164 ballpoint called Meisterstück Classic or Classique?

The French spelling Classique is the correct one. This size within the Meisterstück line includes, among others, the 144 fountain pen and the 164 ballpoint, both of which can be placed unambiguously by their model numbers. A Meisterstück variant called Classic, on the other hand, never existed.

Classic is the name of a separate Montblanc series positioned below the Meisterstück line. It succeeded the 220 series of the 1970s and was in turn replaced by the Generation series. The two names need to be kept apart when identifying a pen and when buying: they stand for different price and quality classes, and that shows plainly in collector value. Listings that describe a plain pen from the Classic series as a “Meisterstück Classic” either rest on a genuine mix-up or are meant to justify the higher price.
