Among the announcements for 2016 were a Writers Edition devoted to William Shakespeare with decoration in gold and a Great Characters edition devoted to Miles Davis. For the latter, an annual edition entirely in black was planned, along with a more elaborate variant tied to the number 1926 in a steel or platinum-plated finish; its most striking design feature is a clip shaped as a trumpet. To these were added a large-format fountain pen bearing the name Goliath, built on the Heritage line with its reference year of 1914, and a new yellow ink.
Overviews of this kind regularly come from advance information in the trade and from international collectors' circles. Montblanc confirms names, limitation sizes, specification and prices only at the official launch, and individual points in such announcements turn out in hindsight to be inaccurate. To assign a particular piece beyond doubt, what count are the engravings on the cap ring and the nib, the limitation number and the certificate supplied with it, not the working titles doing the rounds beforehand.
