Both pens are built on the Meisterstück 146, but they come from different phases of production. With the introduction of the 147 the 146 was slightly enlarged, because two cartridges had to fit into the barrel of the 147 and the sizes across the line were brought into line with one another. Since that change the cap rings no longer carry the model number; older pieces still bear the words “Meisterstück No 146”.
A pen with the number on the cap ring thus dates from before the 147, one without that imprint from after it. Of the two special editions mentioned, both built on the 146, the Ramses II is accordingly the older model, which explains its slightly shorter cap and slightly shorter barrel. Small differences in dimensions are nothing unusual at Montblanc in any case: the 146 and the 149 were both altered in their measurements several times over the decades, and even individual special series vary in the size of their bodies. Nothing about authenticity can be inferred from this.
