Multiple hallmarks on a silver pen are normal and no indication of a fake or of parts cobbled together. The various marks say essentially the same thing, namely that the piece is sterling silver of 925/1000 fineness. Since the European countries use different symbols for this, makers who supply several markets apply several marks accordingly.
So one typically finds side by side the plain numerical mark 925, a maker's mark and an assay mark that is either country-specific or recognised under the Hallmarking Convention. A pair of scales with the fineness figure belongs to this group; other countries use animal or head symbols that are hard for the layman to read. To these is added the laser engraving on the clip with its identification number and country of origin.
On the silver Meisterstück versions, the guilloché Solitaire models for instance, this combination is the rule. Where the hallmarks are missing altogether, on the other hand, caution is called for.
