Until about 1993, factory-new Montblanc writing instruments were delivered to specialist retailers in a works packaging of thin cardboard; this, however, did not serve as sales packaging but was exchanged when sold against the higher-quality gift box. Today, delivery takes place in blister packaging. Such a cardboard box is therefore an original packaging and no indication of a preceding repair. Only earlier comparable cardboard boxes were occasionally also used by service for return transport, which however allows no conclusion about the condition of the pen.
