The Caressa 422 is a school pen from Montblanc's range of the 1970s. It belongs not to the Meisterstück line but to the plain everyday segment that Montblanc sold for decades alongside its high-grade pens, much as Pelikan did. At the time the range ran from the cheap school pen up to the large piston filler of the Meisterstück series; only considerably later did the company concentrate on the luxury end of the market.
For valuation that means school pens of this kind are worth little in money terms; they turn up comparatively often and are not among the collectors' rarities. As pens to write with, on the other hand, they are frequently still faultless, since construction and mechanism are robust and simply made; after a thorough flush with lukewarm water many examples will write on without further ado. The stamped model number is the most reliable guide to identification, as these series are easily confused from the outside.
