The Meisterstück 145, sold as the Classique and for a time also under the name Chopin, is a cartridge pen. It takes standard cartridges and, with the converter supplied, can equally well be filled from the bottle. At around 140 millimetres long and with a slim barrel, it is the smaller and lighter of the two models.
The 146 LeGrand, by contrast, is a piston filler with a built-in piston and an ink window; cartridges cannot be used in it. Closed it measures about 145 millimetres, is noticeably thicker and heavier and suits large hands and longer stretches of writing. For an average-sized hand the 145 is a fitting choice, not least because the converter leaves one free to switch between cartridge and bottle.
