Older Montblanc nibs are generally significantly more flexible than today's and also more flexible than comparable Pelikan nibs, so a certain giving is normal. A lateral spreading, however, often indicates a bent nib, which cannot be clarified by remote diagnosis; an assessment in a Montblanc boutique or by a specialist is recommended. Excessive ink flow can also be down to the feed or to a leaking piston that draws extra air. An independent correction of the nib geometry is only restrictedly possible; in case of doubt, a nib exchange is the most reliable solution, which however can come close to the value of a new fountain pen.
