Slim Montblanc writing instruments of the 1980s in which the star sits in the clip as an inserted plastic part belong to the CS series, which was also marketed under the name Slim Line. They are often taken for a Noblesse, but they form a line of their own. The series belonged to what was then called the third price category, in other words to the inexpensive Montblanc models: a rollerball cost around 50 DM in the 1980s.
The coloured versions have a brass body with a matt plastic coating. The fountain pens in the series all have a gold-plated steel nib rather than a gold one, something sales listings occasionally get wrong. The collector value of the range is correspondingly modest, but its value in use is high, since the pens are robustly built and suitable refills remain a stock item in any good stationer's.
