In 2004 a writing ink came onto the market that contains pure gold and was offered as a 24-carat gold ink. It could be seen in public in September 2004 at the Tilburg Pen Show on a collector's stand, and on 3 October 2004 at the Hamburg fountain pen fair, where the supplier, a company by the name of Nanosolutions, presented it itself for the first time.
Interested parties were also able to try the ink out there in writing tests. It was thus introduced first in the setting of the collectors' fairs and not through the general stationery trade.
