Montblanc does not supply spare parts to end customers. A faulty pen has to be handed in complete at the service centre, which carries out the repair; individual components such as a blind cap, a piston knob or a broken piston drive cannot be obtained on their own. In return, charging is uniformly regulated and applies worldwide, so that every boutique and service point works to the same rules.

Billing is based on two flat rates: the first covers servicing and maintenance without the replacement of parts, the second all repairs going beyond that, regardless of how many parts have to be replaced or which ones. A broken piston drive therefore costs no more than a minor fault. The flat rate for pens in precious resin is lower than the one for Solitaire models in precious metal. The repair also includes a new feed, while the nib is usually retained; what comes back is a thoroughly overhauled pen. This describes the position as of 2005; for the flat rates currently in force it is best to ask the service department directly.
