The lapel pin in the shape of a Montblanc nib belonged to the regular accessories range and could be bought in the shops for some years; a promotional gift it was not. It disappeared from the range long ago and was certainly no longer available from the second half of the 2000s onwards. It can therefore only be acquired second-hand.

Opinions differ as to how scarce the piece is. Some regard it as decidedly rare, yet several examples are to be found in individual collections, so a great rarity should not simply be assumed. One should therefore be slow to attribute a particularly high value to a chance find; what count, as always, are condition, above all surfaces free of scratches, and the presence of the original box.
