In 2010 the shop price in Germany of the Meisterstück LeGrand with platinum-plated trim, that is the 146 of the Platinum Line, was 510 euros including 19 per cent VAT.
Prices abroad were higher at the time: in Dubai the same model was asking the equivalent of around 580 euros. Buying in Germany was thus the cheaper course even for customers living abroad, all the more so since buyers resident outside the European Union can reclaim the VAT on leaving. At that price this came to more than 80 euros, bringing the pen down to a good 430 euros in effect. The condition is that the export papers are made out at the time of purchase and stamped at the airport before departure, for which enough time should be allowed. The boutiques in the transit areas of the larger airports carry the standard Meisterstück models as well.
This list price is a useful yardstick when placing second-hand examples, since used pens have always changed hands well below the price of a new one.
