Such a striking smell is not normal and does not occur on most fountain pens. Most frequent cause are ink residues, e.g. from mouldy ink; a thorough cleaning with water is therefore the first step. If that does not help, the material processed itself can be the cause, since other writing instruments too can smell unpleasant due to material. To cover, a scented ink can if applicable be used; if the smell remains permanently, material ageing as cause is likely.
