The S nib width is regarded as the rarest nib width of the Montblanc writing instruments of the 1990s, because it existed only for a short time and only on the Meisterstück 145 Chopin. It writes broadly and at the same time absolutely evenly, without any skipping whatsoever, and was intended for writers who rotate the pen while writing; with a normal B or BB nib this inevitably leads to skipping. For the same reason it is also well suited to left-handed writers.
The disadvantage lies in the appearance of the script, which seems somewhat characterless; production was therefore discontinued again. Particularly rare is the version in 18 carat gold: according to rumour, only around 200 S nibs of 750 gold were made. Chopin fountain pens with an S nib are correspondingly hard to find.
