Original and copy of the StarWalker Resin
Outwardly the copy of the StarWalker Resin is barely distinguishable from the original: neither in the overall view nor with the cap unscrewed do any deviations appear. The first grounds for suspicion are provided by the packaging, on which the star is not shaped like a Montblanc star, and by the surface of the barrel, which feels markedly duller than on a genuine instrument of the brand.
The floating star in the cap top is a usable feature: on the original the logo cannot be focused on directly in a photograph, whereas on the copy it can; in addition the star of the copy does not have the typical Montblanc shape but rather resembles a dented circle.
The clip settles the matter. The underside of the original clip bears the lettering GERMANY metal Pix, which is missing on the copy. Montblanc clips are stamped; the clip of the copy is bent from a single piece of sheet metal, which is why the inner stamping is absent and the transition at the clip ball shows a distinct edge where the original runs smoothly. The clip code sits to the right of the clip on the original, but on the clip itself on the copy, where it is barely visible and is not worked in with a laser. When changing the refill it finally becomes apparent that the metal part of the copy is made considerably longer; the section of the original is darker and the stamping more pronounced. The refill itself is also a reproduction on the copy.
