The Jungle Eyes did not originally belong to the Gift Collection at all, but to a jewellery collection of its own, which Montblanc probably brought out around 2002 and which is regarded as the successor to the Fairy Tale collection. Success was modest, and the series was correspondingly short-lived. Fountain pens and ballpoints were offered in the small Mozart size and in the Classique size, listed under the numbers 114 and 116 and 144 and 164 respectively. According to dealers' paperwork, and without guarantee, the list prices were about 545 euros for the 114, 435 euros for the 116, 595 euros for the 144 and 495 euros for the 164.
What characterises them are the set coloured stones, mostly synthetic versions of citrine and tourmaline. The original collection ran to five colours: blue, yellow, green, red and violet. The remaining stock was later carried over into the Gift Collection of 2004, where it was worked up into new pens using different body parts; white and black stones were added, sold as Mother of Pearl and Onyx. The Jungle Eyes Onyx belongs to this late group.
Distribution was tightly restricted: the Jungle Eyes were sold through the then still small number of boutiques and a handful of jewellers, the Gift Collection exclusively through selected boutiques in Germany and there for a few months only. The pieces are correspondingly scarce today.
