Copy of the Sienna leather case for two pens
Accessories are copied too: reproductions of the Montblanc leather case for two writing instruments from the Sienna line are in circulation, and they differ from the original in several places. The front and the back should always be assessed together.
Most conspicuous is the leather itself. The copy is very heavily grained, whereas the surface of the original appears finely textured. A glance at the front also shows that the flap of the reproduction is markedly shorter than on the original.
In the detail of the front the counterfeit gives itself away at the emblem: the star is not properly rounded at the corners but tapers rather to points. The ring enclosing it has no proper gold plating but is made of brass and accordingly looks a dirty brass colour.
Final certainty is provided by the embossing on the back. On the original it is executed far more distinctly: the entire MONTBLANC field is worked into the leather as a recess, and the star is cleanly formed. On the copy the embossing is only hinted at, and the star is barely recognisable within it.
