The John Harrison edition was released in 2003 in honor of the inventor of the chronometer for determining position and distance at sea.
John Harrison (1693-1776) was initially a carpenter like his father, later he produced clocks with his brother James.
To win the Longitude Prize, he began building clocks for ships
to construct, which can be seen today at the Royal Observatory in Greenwich. The H1, his first marine chronometer, showed only deviations of a few seconds per day, and although this meant a small breakthrough at the time, the prize was denied him.
He continuously improved his clocks and was the first to use diamonds in the H4, which guarantee the most frictionless operation possible.
This principle is still used today in high-quality watches.
A copy of the H4 was later installed on many ships, like z.B.
including those of James Cook.
with the help of these watches, it was finally possible to solve the longitude problem , as the clock measured the time of the departure port and the difference to local time was determined astronomically.
The fountain pen consists of 18kt gold with a mesh that represents the globe with its longitudes and latitudes. The seas
and Ozeane through transparent, slightly bluish synthetic resin
represented. in the place of the Montblanc mountain, there is a small diamond.
