The masterpieces of the 1950s were manufactured from celluloid and have the coveted telescope piston mechanism. The telescope piston mechanism
was developed in 1935 by Montblanc and patented in 1936.
A major advantage of this technique is the compact
design of this mechanism, which allows 30-40% more ink capacity.
The large Meisterstücke ( Montblanc Meisterstück
139 and 149 ) were among the longest-writing fountain pens
in the world thanks to this technique. For
the telescope piston mechanism, brass was used, thus
the stability of the mechanism was improved and the
fountain pen became heavier.

Model
with the additional designation "G"
After World War II, when gold reserves were exhausted, Montblanc therefore also produced fountain pens
of the Meisterstücke series with a steel nib. To mark these,
the Meisterstücke models with a
gold nib received the additional designation "G". This guaranteed
that this model had a gold nib.

In
export models, the middle gold ring is marked with the designation "Montblanc
- Masterpiece", while in domestic
products it reads "Montblanc - Meisterstück". |
