Silver and carbon cap with an edition size of 4810
The Patron of Arts edition of 2004 is dedicated to the banker and patron of the arts J. P. Morgan. The barrel is made of 925 sterling silver and corresponds in size to roughly a Meisterstück 146. The most striking design feature is on the cap: a weave of silver and carbon whose three-dimensional depth creates a considerably stronger contrast than the familiar carbon Meisterstück models. As on the Copernicus, the star is made of mother-of-pearl, and the clip is emphatically restrained, almost puristic in its lines.
Like all fountain pens in this series, the J. P. Morgan carries an 18-carat gold nib. The edition size of the regular version is 4810 examples; alongside it, a series limited to 888 pieces is issued. The edition was delivered from April 2004 onwards through the Montblanc specialist retailers.
The overall impression is of a surprisingly modern fountain pen that lives on understatement; at the same time the cap makes it an eye-catcher. Even at its presentation it was regarded as a candidate for a future classic of the series.
